Camera Check – Chris Chitaroni

For being such a relatively small city, the Ottawa scene has it’s fair share of filmers and photographers. One person who seems to always be traveling with the most gear is Chris Chitaroni. I found this online feature, and had the desire to do the same here, with local camera geeks. Chris recently got an HD video camera, shoots photos with a DSLR, and for the last year has been working on an 8mm video project, so I knew he would have a diverse and interesting set up. Just like always, Chris was quick to respond and eager to share some info on what he’s been using. Click the link below to see what he has to say, and to check out more photos of his gear.

Best/Worst of 2008 – Part 2

As promised, here is the second half of the Best/Worst lists from numerous different people. Some are short, some are exceedingly long (i.e. mine). The lists I got back from people were great, and hopefully next year we can get even more. Click the link below to read them.

Throwback Thursday

In this week’s very special holiday edition of Throwback Thursday I have a great photo from Chris Campbell. He was doing some digging around at his parents house, and found this piece of history.

Rich Redmond, Ryan McCaig, Denver Eastman, and a name I forgot all posing with Colonel Sanders.

I think this was shot some time in 2004, while a convoy of us were on route to South Parc. We had rented the park out for the night, and gotten what was at the time the entire Ottawa scene (and members of the Kemptville and Hawksbury scenes) to all pitch in and come out. While driving out there we all stopped at the McDonald’s on the the way to Montreal, and saw this happy character who resembled Colonel Sanders, of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. Immediately Chris and Ryan McCaig went up to talk to him, and Chris snapped this photo while others posed around him. I remember that night as an amazing session for everyone, watching Roland try real flips for the first time, and everyone just having a great time. Good times.

Best/Worst of 2008 – Part 1

Every year we do a Best/Worst list where people talk about their favorite and most hated (they don’t call it 2000 and hate for nothing) things from the past year. The categories aren’t limited to just BMX, but rather anything people wanted to talk about in their lives, the world, or the local scene. This year I tried to ask as many different people as I could. A small number got back to me very quickly, and some I’m still waiting on. I figured I’d split the list in to two parts, and give you some now, and hopefully we’ll get some more responses back to post after Christmas. If you want to contribute, then shoot me an e-mail with your list (prashantgopal at gmail dot com) and I’ll make sure it goes in. Take a look at some of the lists after the link below.

Happy Holidays

Happy holidays from your friends at Capital BMX.

Throwback Thursday

I seem to post a lot of Denver and Dave photos, but truth of the matter is that they were the two guys who were always shooting photos. Here Denver rides the original Ottawa Sk8 Park some time in 2003-2004 (?), that very few of us got to ride. Rich used to organize the weekly session of who was to ride because it was so tight on space. I think we set a maximum of 3 people at a time. If you didn’t make it, you went on to a waiting list.

Micreation Synopsis Trailer

This is already getting passed around the internet pretty fast, but this video was a topic of discussion just last week on the message board. People were wondering what became of any of the footage from when the Micreation team came through Ottawa back in August of 2007. Well Jeff Bedard was right and they edited it in to a video, and now the trailer is up. Lots of spots in Ottawa from the NAC, Rideau roof, Lansdowne, and more with riding from Brad Simms, Tony Neyer, Joe Cox, etc. You can buy in straight from the Micreation shop here.
