Halloween Jam Photos

After postponing the jam because of rain, then a night of snow, we still managed to have the annual Halloween Jam go down. The weather was still pretty chilly, and some fierce winds, but close to 20 riders came out to have fun, some in costumes and some not. Check out some of the photos below of the fun and excuse the time stamp on them (didn’t realize it was on). Big thanks go out to Joe Mamma and Ten Pack for hooking up the event with tons of goods for the riders, and everyone for coming out in the cold to attend.

Rich took back the title for the 180 contest champ, and Ben Kaufmann (lego man) had the farthest straight jump all the way to the dirt.

RAIN DATE: Halloween Jam – Sunday, Oct 31st

226_PEA_Welcome_Great_Pumpkin

Due to the turn in weather today, and the risk of showers, we are pushing the annual Halloween Jam to tomorrow, Sunday, October 31st, at 3pm until dark at Centrepointe Skatepark. Everything else will be as planned with a 180 contest, footdown, and more. Show up with your costume and be ready to have a good time, eat some candy, and win some prizes. Please pass on this info to anyone you know that was planning to attend.

Ben Kaufmann Norco Edit

I saw this video a while ago, but it was in some particular video player that I couldn’t figure out how to embed it. It seems to have made it’s way to Youtube so check it out. Ben talks about how he got in to riding, doing shows, an upcoming bike with Norco, and lays down some moves at Orleans, CP, UAB (RIP) the Sudbury trails, and on some street. I’m pretty sure this was filmed almost a year ago, but it’s definitely worth the watch for some cool bike-cam footage and the whole piece was put together really well.

Pepsi Pro-Am Video

The Pepsi Pro-Am contest at Taz this past weekend was awesome. Too many highlights to list, so here is a video that sums most of it up. Max Vincent’s last trick is insane. Corey Dewey does an insane rail ride and Dylan doesn’t need a landing for anything. Oh and Moxley rides okay too…

Sorry for the strange aspect ratio… vimeo is acting up these days. I’ll try and get a better version uploaded but for now this should do.

Halloween Jam – Don’t Forget

EDIT: Riders of all skill levels are encouraged to come out. Skills will not to be the only determinant for prizes. Enjoy favourite contest events like foot down, and the ever classic 180 fly out contest. Perhaps even a game of monster truck (successfully ride over a big pile of bikes). Come out with a great costume and win a prize! Free candy!

Alright everyone. The #1 event of the year is coming up this Saturday October 30th at NOON. Everyone show up with your costume to ride Centerpoint (Legacy) Skatepark and have a great time. I just picked up the box of prizes from Ten Pack and its full of great gear. We have NEVER had a Halloween Jam with so many prizes. Between the stuff that Ten Pack sent, and the stuff Jose at Joe Mamma’s has provided we’re gonna have more stuff to hand out than we know what to do with.

So come out and support the Ottawa BMX scene. Don’t be a quiet weird queer and not show up because you “don’t care”. If you don’t care about having fun, then you should probably just slit your wrists now and save the rest of us from paying the healthcare bills that will inevitably pay for your anti-depressants. BMX and costumes. Fuck yeah.

ESPN: Zine Reviews

as_bmx_zines_576

Presently up on the ESPN BMX website is an article about the still present subculture of BMX zines. In the article you will also find a review of Yo Sick Zine Issue 7. Click here to read the article and find out how you can get your hands on a few other really great zines.

Also, if you are in Toronto on Sunday, October 24th, stop by CANZINE at The Great Hall (1087 Queen Street West) between 1 and 7 pm to check out Canada’s largest zine fair and festival of alternative culture. Yo Sick Zine will be present with a table selling zines, buttons, and giving away candy. See you there.

Ben Kaufmann Summer Tour 2010 Video

Ben is probably too modest to post this video himself, so I’m going to. I grabbed it from Facebook. Check out the best of Ben’s footage from a summer of doing shows. Lots of huge heavy hitter box jump moves and some really great technical riding (ET toothpick, whip to fufanu). Cameo appearance by Rich’s controversial traveling ostrich emu hat.

Just in time for Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner (I hope you all have costumes for the jam already) so I figured I would share my new horror short with you all. This was shot over the course of the summer and includes the talents of a couple local bmx riders, see if you can spot their contributions.

Weekend Webedit

I rode both days of the weekend, which never happens. So to celebrate, I banged out a little web edit. This definitely would not have happened if Rich hadn’t been such a stickler for clips yesterday, he made that Taz box jump his bitch.

New Spot Check with Craig Robinson

Before Jeff Bedard moved to Vancouver he found this gem of a spot, and to my knowledge nobody but him and I had ridden it until today. Craig and I went and checked it out this afternoon and spent an hour or so riding it. Anyone who knows Craig and how he rides knows that this spot is right up his alley. Take a look at the pictures for proof.
