10 Year Anniversary

This winter marks the 10 year anniversary of Capital BMX, which is quite an accomplishment for a local scene website. I had personally taken over the site 8 years ago from my brother who first started it. Since that time, the look of it has gone through changes, the domain name has been through changes (.com, .cjb.net, etc.), we’ve lost all kinds of posts and photos, we’ve lost riders, but one thing that it has always managed to do is bring riders from across the city together. We’ve promoted and put on countless events, jams, contests, premieres, and roadtrips and showcased rider’s photos, videos, and writing, which would not have been possible to reach as many people as we have without this site.

Our man on the Toronto streets, Leland Nightingale-Forfar, sent through this short edit of him other Toronto friends riding before the weather got cold.

Haxxord

haxxor

As you may have noticed, this morning CapitalBMX was hacked. In reality it wasnt only capital that got hacked but also all the websites on the server at our webhost. Luckily our host was very quickly able to roll back to an offsite version and almost nothing was lost.

There have been a few requests to see the hacker page that replaced CapitalBMX, so in all its glory I present. HaCkEd by nO lOv3

Yo Sick: Issue 9

Yo Sick Nine is finished. Quarter page size, colour paper cover, 16 pages of black and white. You can find the usual assortment of photos and drawings by me, as well as a fold out poster shot by Jon Jenkins. There is a limited amount of copies at Joe Mamma (767 Bank Street) in Ottawa, or you can contact me directly to get one.

I have also started a new site focused on Yo Sick Zine that I will keep updated regularly with drawings, photos, links, and the sort of content you would find between its pages. Tangible copies of Yo Sick will still continue, but bookmark the new site for any and all zine related content from now on here. Click below to check out some more pages from this issue.

Legend-wait for it-Dary…. PULLED.

rolandYeserday at CP, Roland pulled what I believe to be the first pocket handplant. Coming out of the vert wall, he handplanted and swung around 90 to land in the bowl corner. Super technical, super insane, super amazing. Downside handplants are probably my favourite trick to see, and this is just pushing the limits of that trick for sure. The landing was pretty chaotic, what I like to call “contest run pulled” but it definitely counts. Roland just wanted to get the trick done before winter, I’m sure he’ll have them dialled by summer.

Kyle Lafleur’s Summer in Sudbury

Here is another edit of Kyle Lafleur shot over the summer before he moved to work in Alberta for a while. The ice pick banger at the end is pretty wild.
*UPDATE* video has been re-edited with some previously missing clips

Racer Jay @ Gloucester Video

Jay Leroux visits his home park where he was once just a young boy working on his gate starts, to now as a man throwing whips to can can landers.

Broke off at Joyride

Eight Ottawa riders made the trip down to Joyride yesterday to improve upon our BMX skills in Ontario’s biggest training facility. Some pretty great stuff went down, most of which didn’t even get filmed. I did manage to film a whole bunch of great crashes though. Check the video out for yourselves.
