That time has come again when Ottawa compiles the best and worst things that happened over the past year. Here are the first batch of lists, I’m sure more will pile in as New Year’s Eve gets closer. Barcelona 2011 – No shirt, no shoes, no Jorden.

I have been trying to get to Barcelona for several years now, however each time something came up and I ended up traveling to a different destination. Finally this spring we came to a consensus that Barcelona could not wait any longer and before we knew it 10 riders had bought their tickets. Groups of riders came from Ottawa, Sudbury and Vancouver and we all met at Centre Ramblas; a hostel right in the centre of Barcelona.

Last night saw the celebration of over half a decade of DIY BMX. After years of leading the hardcore BMX scene in Montreal, Ugly Assed Bikes is closing their doors. Liam Mulrooney, the park’s owner/operator and general all around badass explained that UAB was not closing because he had tired of working 24/7 and sinking thousands of his own dollars into the park; instead the park is closing because the building has changed hands and the new landlords have upped the rent to an impossible figure.
