Vancouver Odyssey: Day 6

Yesterday we went to UBC campus and met up with Shawn Henderson who showed us around. Amidst all the back-to-school week festivities we found plenty of things to ride, even some dirt jumps next to the campus. After all of that we cruised around downtown and took in some spots and sites. Check out more photos after the link.

We got asked to leave this one spot in particular a few times this day.

Vancouver Odyssey: Day 5

We got an early start to our day and went back to the New Westminster park to ride it in the daylight. After a couple of hours we went up to North Van to a great water spot and then rode the Kirkstone park before a few injuries started taking people out. Click below to check out more photos.

Vancouver Odyssey: Day 4

Day 3 was full of rain and rather uneventful, so I’m going to skip straight to day 4. After an unsurprising late start to the day we drove out to Port Coquitlam and rode the Railside park. More rain chased us out the park by the end of the day and out to New Westminster. Click below for more photos.

Vancouver Odyssey: Day 1 + 2

Rich Redmond, Chris Chitaroni, his cousin Ryan, Jorden Guth, Jamie Lawlor, Chris Bryan, and myself (Prashant) are out in Vancouver staying with Marc Boudreau and Jeff Bedard. We’ve been riding parks, sleeping on floors, and driving around in the back of a Uhaul van. It’s a wet and rainy day here (day 3), so I’m uploading a bunch of photos from days 1 and 2. Click below to check out more from the trip so far.

Backyard Ramping

I just spent a couple of hours in Sudbury and had the chance to ride Pat Girard’s backyard ramp with Kyle Lafleur. The ramps were excellently sketchy with just enough slippery post rain terror to keep us amused for about 2 hours. It was quite fun.

ben kaufmann - rock quarter mega whip

There’s been a lack of epic Ben Kaufmann content on here lately, so I stole this one from Facebook. Ben Kaufmann with a mega tailwhip on nature’s secret quarter pipe.

I found this photo I shot recently of Jeff Bedard on his bike, doing anything but riding, feeling rough a morning after. Vancouver here we come.

This kid is hard to miss. You’ll see him eventually. Shredding hard and doing his own thing. Nothing but original at all times. One of Ottawa’s true shredders. Here is C-F-S at the new Picton park on an impossible to ride diamond casket.

This photo of Jeff Bedard was shot by Rich Redmond, and I have been sitting on it for a while because I also used it as a two page spread in Yo Sick Issue 6. The photo was too good to only be seen there, so here it is in its full colour, digital format. This was shot during the Toronto BMX Jam weekend, after a long day of pedaling around everywhere, when we finally made it to the Harbourfront and Jeff became enamoured with doing different skid variations with this pile of sand. Too much fun with what most people wouldn’t even call a spot. Jeff never disappoints.

Funeral For a Friend

Last night saw the celebration of over half a decade of DIY BMX. After years of leading the hardcore BMX scene in Montreal, Ugly Assed Bikes is closing their doors. Liam Mulrooney, the park’s owner/operator and general all around badass explained that UAB was not closing because he had tired of working 24/7 and sinking thousands of his own dollars into the park; instead the park is closing because the building has changed hands and the new landlords have upped the rent to an impossible figure.
