Originally with the release of Hate This, there was supposed to be a print booklet with interviews with the main lineup riders, and other odds and ends that Rich Redmond wanted to include. Unfortunately, due to time and constraints, it never materialized, but Rich still wanted to share some of the ones that he had completed. Click below to read his interview with Jorden Guth.
Jorden Guth has filmed full parts for more than a few Ottawa video releases over the last number of years and become a staple of the Ottawa scene. After moving to Ottawa years ago he quickly took to the activity going on in the community and became a part of it. Now for someone with as many nicknames based on his frailty (i.e. Coma, Bambi) as he does, and just generally being picked on for usually being the youngest of the herd, he takes it all in jest and always manages to keep an up beat attitude on everything in life. In fact, I don’t know any rider that smiles as much as he does. Where most people would pass on a dangerous trick/setup, it’s that enthusiasm that he has that will force him to try it, for better or worse. He’s always the first person willing to drive across town to ride with you at the drop of a hat, and the first person offering to help out his friends with anything. With that all being said, read Rich’s interview below to learn more about Ottawa’s nicest rider, Jorden Guth.
- Prashant Gopal
RR- Full name and where you are from please? And a friend count of how many still live there, I know you keep tabs on these sort of things.
JG- Robert Jorden Guth.I’m originally from Ottawa, but moved to Brampton(outside of Toronto) for a large chunk of my life. I figure your talking about Brampton friends… there is still a bunch (Editor’s Note: 5 friends)
RR- Jorden, the mass public needs to know. DO YOU WORK OUT ?
JG- Fuck no! The argument has been made recently I could just life some weights and wouldn’t have to spend as much money on light parts.
RR- You have done some pretty sweet traveling for a Best Buy employee who attends university for smart people. Where exactly has Bambi been too in the last few years?
JG- Well last April Chris Chitaroni and I managed to win a trip to Florida through Bestbuy which was fucking awesome. Then I ended up agreeing to head to Sweden with Chris super last minute a couple days after my last exam in early May. The summer calmed down a bit and I was going places within driving distance, Sudbury, Montreal, Toronto and everywhere in between. In October Chris, Kyle L, and myself went to England to do some riding and check out the country. The England trip was amazing because we got to see so much stuff that makes up the history of the world and BMX! It did kinda mess me up in school though.roughly two weeks of having a blast just to come back to a full stack of work and crazy midterms.ha ha, I don’t think I’ll be traveling through the school year again.
On the way to Florida I ended up getting a secondary search at the airport for whatever reason and since then all the places we went to would me having airport security go through my shit and put their hands down my pants to make sure I wasn’t going to blow up the planes. It was pretty ridiculous, but it did get us to the front of the line for almost every flight!

RR- What happened at the Kingston Metro? I don’t remember seeing you compete.
JG- I was really nervous for that comp, I had allot of stuff I wanted to do and I had never had the chance to ride the amazing metro ramps before so I wanted to shred. In practice I wanted to feel out the massive box jump they had set up. The first go at it was soo fucking smooth and perfect (a total fluke) I was giggling on the deck after. I Kept going at it instead of feeling up the rest of the course. The last one I did I landed a bit to far to the one side and caught my bars on the metal structure of the ramp beside the landing. I ended up going to a dead stop and my elbow and hip to most of the impact. I was a fucking mess, and ended up taking a short trip to the hospital with Jose for stitches and a quick check over. When me and Jose got back from the hospital the comp was over and everyone was leaving. I am still super bummed I didn’t get a chance to really ride those ramps, and I missed everyone’s runs. The good news is Tommy got second and from the video I’ve seen everyone really kicked ass.
RR- Why is that you tried to gap from the 5ft bowl to the 7ft bowl at CP? Why was it not filmed? Can you understand that would be like not filming me jumping my motorbike over Ottawa? It’s just not possible, so you might as well film the death.
JG-That gap is totally possible! It was an impulse to try it and I messed up my heal doing it. I’ll film it if I ever try it again, haha.
RR- How do you have time to be the nicest guy in town, always ?
JG- Lots of Cheerios.
RR- Do you drive a massive truck to make up for something else? I do.
JG- haha ya. I think I’ve driven it for so long that I cant imagine driving a car. I love being able to just throw my bike in the back and go.Plus I end up helping people with moving stuff and doing all the things you need a truck for. I have so many memories with that truck. Its expensive for gas but for right now she is sticking around!
RR- Why does your nose bleed so easily ?
JG- Haha I’ve had my nose smashed in a couple times. In grade 9 I had my sinus cavity and nose broken by a punch, thats when the nose bleeds started to happen more often. Now its brutal, it will just start out of no where, or with the slightest hit.
RR- I know you read a book or something on the “game”. Has this helped you bag chicks? Or was it just Landozine propaganda?
JG- I can neither confirm nor deny this statement. haha I think it just put in words what allot of guys already do to pick up girls. Its a good book but I don’t know how much it helps you pick up girls. I mean I lent it to Chitaroni and it sure as hell didn’t do anything for him Haha.

RR- Does this interview have you smiling ear to ear like every day sunlight does?
JG- haha ya, I’ve been laughing at each question so far. Definitely a good way to start off my day!
RR- You’ve accomplished quite a bit for a young man, what’s next in the future for you?
JG- At some point I’m going to have to finish school, smarten up and get a real job. I’m not expecting that to happen any time soon, so in the meantime I’m planning on doing some more traveling and get time on my bike. There has been so much that I could never imagine doing on my bike and I want to keep pushing that. There is allot I still have to do, I just want to stay with it and learn and avoid getting hurt.
RR- You recently bought Kyle’s cam because he is too lazy to use the damn thing. What can we expect from this purchase?
JG- I’ve wanted a camcorder for a long time but I could never afford one. Kyle made his affordable so i’m pumped on the idea of making some little edits and getting better with both the editing and filming side of things. I cant imagine making a full video just yet. Maybe if I teamed up with someone, but I don’t think people realize how much work goes into that stuff.
RR- Do you practice the splits at home?
JG- Hahaha, i’m guessing your referring to my no-footers. Its weird, I would never be able to stretch that much on the ground. I don’t practice them at home, maybe I should start, I’ve kinda been slacking on them lately.
RR- Why exactly do you wear a mouth guard? And replying “so I don’t look like you” is not the answer.
JG- Flairs are pretty much the reason I wear a mouthguard. A couple years ago I got k.o’ed going over the bars on a flair and my doctor told me it was a good idea to help prevent me from going brain dead.

RR- I still have your full face at home here. Brenna wears it for dirt biking. Do you ever want it back? Or should I have never said anything because of your amnesia?
JG- She’s actually using it which makes allot more sense then just having it collect dust in my closet. Eventually I’ll grab it back to ride vert or something. But im in no rush. Plus its the least I could do after I crashed your dirtbike. haha
RR- What is your faviourite movie?
JG- For real movie its probably Top Gun or Fight Club. I can watch those over and over and still be pumped. For biking videos I like the local ones the best, Scene Here, Landozines, Hate This. I get more excited seeing my friends shred than watching some pro do stuff they do every day in a video.
RR- What is your favourite trick?
JG- I have allot of tricks that are up there for me. Van homan no footed cans, Dave Osato over 270 tooth to half bars, Cannon balls are nuts. I like a huge variety I guess. A trick im not a big fan of is the new school toboggan…The ones where the bike is neither dipped nor the seat fully grabbed. Fuck that trick! Right now I love the feeling of truck drivers and 180 whips and as always No Footers!
RR- I can’t even guess who your favourite rider is because your riding is a wild bastardization of ballet and boxing. But who exactly do you look to for ideas when it comes to riding?
JG- It depends on the trick. For toothpicks it was Jamie Delany at vaughn where I first fell in love with that trick. He has an amazing style with it. Then fast forward a few years and Jeff “Cockmaster” Bedard was doing them at centerpoint so I started trying. Haha it came allot quicker then I thought, I still cant believe I do that trick.
I think I look for ideas from everyone, but allot of the time I just get egged into trying something new and sometimes it works and sometimes not so much. My favourite pro is probably a three way tie with Van Homan, Jay Miron, and Gary Young.

RR- What are you taking in school and when can we expect Jorden to have a real job and his own, um… “crib”, as the youngsters would say?
JG- I am at Carleton University taking an undergrad honors in economics with a minor in philosophy. Its a cool mix.I haven’t even moved out yet! Haha. I guess after school is over I’ll start looking for a new job. Im in no real rush to grow up. I’m having allot of fun doing what im doing now, I don’t think I’d be able to live the way I do if im worried about making good on a career. It’ll come someday.
RR- I am fucking done with this interview, too much smiling. Any last thoughts?
JG- Don’t stress over the little things. Money is a tool,a means to an end. Don’t confuse it with being an end in itself or you will be cursed with fucked up priorities. Laugh at the stuff that gets you down because being sad isn’t worth the time in this short life we live. Just have fun with everything everyday and enjoy yourselves!
I just want to make it know that I couldn’t have done half of what I’ve done in life without the help I get from alot of different people. My mom and dad and my sisters have been with me from the start and have shaped me into who I am now. Chris Chitaroni, Jeff Bedard, You(Rich Redmond), Prashant Gopal, Andrew Grant,Tommy Hains, Marc Boudreau, Roland, Ted Bambrick,Chris Byran,Kyle L, Brandon, Chris Campbell and everyone else from Ottawa that I ride and party with. Leland & Pat, Tyler Rule, Mike Goltz and everyone in Toronto. Liam and the UAB crew who give everyone a place to ride and party, take allot of shit and don’t ask for anything in return, and everyone else I ride with from all over. Also a big shout out to Jose and Joe Mammas who always is there to help me with my bike and keep the whole Ottawa scene rolling! I may not say I appreciate you all on a daily basis but I do, your the reason I still love riding my little bike.
Cheers!
