Pool Season – Volume 2
Posted by Prashant - 21/05/09 at 05:05:14 pmIf you remember the last Pool Season post that Chris Chitaroni wrote, you would recall the unquenchable thirst lately to ride more pools. When conversing with each other, we realized we both had/have a hard time explaining the desire to ride spots like this to people outside of BMX. Nevertheless, Chris pulled together a short little video of some of the riding at the newly discovered pool that one afternoon (nothing crazy, but hopefully it conveys the enthusiasm for it). Click the link below to read Chris’ story from that day and our run in with the police, as well as a few photos from the both of us.

So pool season is coming to a close, those empty concrete monoliths will soon be full of water so blue that it burns your eyes. Jeff Bedard, the pool whisperer, has found a solution to the end of pool season, an abandoned pool. This magnificent bastard will be empty for the duration of the summer. Brandon, Jamie, Karl Ozzenbronson, Prashant and I had a pretty epic daylight session riding this pool before the Sunday video premiere only to be escorted off premises by Ottawa’s finest.
Run ins with the cops are always fun, you never know if they’re having a good day or not. You never know if they’re just going to ask you to leave or whether they’ll flex their authoritative muscles and ruin your day. We were lucky enough to get a pair of cops who were far too lazy to punish us. The one cop who I will dub ‘Murtaugh’ (after Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon) was quoted as saying “I’m too old for this shit” more than once in the 15 minute conversation we had with him. And the other cop, a skinny asian guy was more concerned with pointing out the absurdity of Karl’s tight pants than with punishing us. So it worked out well.
The cops couldn’t understand why we chose to ride a pool and risk a run in with the law when skateparks have been provided for us to ride. None of us could really explain it to them, nor do I think its very easy to explain it to anyone who doesn’t ride. I think part of the fun is knowing that the session could end up with a bust. The session could end up with an angry pool owner screaming at you as you grab your gear and hop the fence. Or the session could last 4 hours, ending only when everyone is too sore and tired to ride anymore. The appeal is that you never know how its gonna go.
